There were 5,391 newly recorded cases of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) reported in England during 2016-17, according to the second publication of annual statistics from NHS Digital.

Latest experimental statistics about female genital mutilation published

New official figures published today provide experimental statistics on female genital mutilation (FGM) in England, from July 2016 to September 2016.
The Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Enhanced Dataset is a repository for data collected by healthcare providers in England, including acute hospital providers, mental health providers and GP practices.

Female genital mutilation: RCN guidance for sexual health care

The publication Female Genital Mutilation: An RCN Resource for Nursing and Midwifery Practice (RCN, 2016) provides detailed information on aspects of FGM. With advances in understanding and updated legislation, there is a need for more specific support for those working in some defined areas of health care practice. 

As a result, this publication acts as a supplement and focuses on those professionals working in sexual health care services, such as sexual health clinics, genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics and children services.
